Cold 'Nuff For Ya?
Cold Weather behavior:
60 above zero: Floridians turn on the heat.North Dakota plant gardens.
50 above zero: Californians shiver uncontrollably. People are sunbathing in
North Dakota.
40 above zero: Import cars won't start.People in North Dakota drive with
the sunroof open.
32 above zero: Distilled water freezes. The water in North Dakota gets
thicker.
20 above zero: New Mexicans put on long johns, parkas and wool hats &
mittens.People in North Dakota throw on a flannel shirt.
15 above zero: New York landlords finally turn on the heat. People in North
Dakota have one last cookout before it gets cold.
Zero: People in Miami all die.People in North Dakota close the windows.
10 below zero: Californians fly away to Mexico.People in North Dakota dig
their winter coats out of storage.
25 below zero: Hollywood disintegrates. Girl Scouts in North Dakota still

Marley & Me
OK, so I had never read the book - heard of it, but never read it. Was told that it was a sad movie, so I was warned - and yes, I cried. I had gone into the theatre thinking that Marley would be the center of attention throughout the movie, and was pleasently surprised that it was so much more. It was a movie about families and how families stay strong when they work out their troubles together, including the joys and sorrows of having a canine companion in the family throughout out the years. I pray that my Buddy will live a full, long, and crazy life (so far, so good) and that he will feel the love I have have for him as much as I feel the unconditional love he has for me when his time to leave this earth arrives. Do not shy away from this movie because of the sad and uncontrollable ending that looms for every living being, but embrace it as your should embrace life the way Marley did; enjoy every breathing moment.Monday, December 15, 2008
Action Packed Saturday
Saturday turned out to be quite a busy day. I quickly ran to the grocery store to stock up on food, because we all know, you can't be caught indoors during a blizzard without any food. As I was finishing up my mini shopping spree, along with the other 80% of the town, Mom calls and tells me to bring her camera when I come home. The reason? Nine cars of a BNSF train derailed just north of our property that runs along the rail line. Quite a sight to see up close. As a kid, I would have a fequent night-mare where the train would start tumbling toward me as it jumped the tracks an rolled onto our property. Well, now it happened, but not quite in the way my youthful brain imagined it.
Saturday was also the day I said gooodbye to an old friend, Isabel Klave. I knew her as Mrs. Klave. She was kind enough to let me play her pump organ whenever I wanted. She would invite me over for cookies or call mom on the phone to see if I could run up to Makowski's Store for her (sometimes three times a day) :D I also remember her cooking with her woodburning stove and scrambling in and our of her cellar - the entrance being smack-dab in the middle of her kitchen floor. Grandma Rose and Mrs. Klave we inseparable when I was a kid, I feel very blessed to have had both in my life. Mrs. Klave moved into the nursing home when she was 98. When she died on Tuesday December 9th, she was 107! Oh, what her eyes had witness in those years.
